Across the community, there is a common misconception that recovery is complete or nearing the finish line. In reality, many families are still navigating the long, exhausting road of rebuilding their lives. While some are close to returning home and others have secured permanent housing, the financial and emotional toll continues to affect their day-to-day survival.
For many, every available dollar has gone toward rebuilding, relocating, or securing stable housing. As a result, essential needs such as food, clothing, household items, and basic supplies are still unmet. These are not luxuries; they are necessities that families continue to struggle to afford.
At the same time, others are just beginning the rebuilding process. Delays caused by insurance complications, permitting issues, and local regulatory processes have created significant barriers. The overwhelming amount of red tape has left some families in prolonged temporary living situations, hotel stays, shared spaces, or unstable arrangements that are difficult to maintain without consistent support. In these circumstances, the need for empathy, understanding, and sustained community assistance is more important than ever.
The Role of Community Nonprofits
Local nonprofits have become the backbone of recovery efforts, stepping in where gaps exist and providing direct, meaningful support to families in need. These organizations are more than service providers. They are trusted community hubs offering stability during uncertain times. Here are some local organizations that have been actively supporting Eaton families who deserve a shoutout.

The Legacy Land Project continues to lead long-term recovery efforts, helping families rebuild while preserving generational homes and maintaining community stability. Their work includes financial assistance, legal guidance, and access to mental health resources—critical components for families facing complex recovery challenges. Join their “HOLD Dena” community resource hub for assistance.
Project Passion Inc. provides a strong community-centered approach through ongoing outreach, essential supplies, mentorship, and engagement programs. Their presence ensures families remain connected and supported throughout the recovery process. Services include free moving services and a by-appointment “Freedom Shop” to pick up toiletries and other home items for Eaton families.
Neighborhood Survants serves as a front-line resource, delivering essential items and direct aid to families in need. Their work addresses immediate necessities as well as community engagement activities, especially for youth and families.
Of course, our own Lotus Rising LA, in partnership with Altadena CoLab and the Altadena Bicycle Club, is working on the Altadena Town Trail and Greenway Initiative to create an urban trail network for cyclists and walkers which will provide infrastructure for increased mobility in Altadena and serve as a hub for community reconnection. Altadena residents can provide input on the town trail directly.
Why Donations Still Matter
Although the initial surge of support following the fire was impactful, donations have significantly slowed. Unfortunately, the needs of the community have not.
Families are still relying on these nonprofits for basic necessities, guidance, and support. Without continued contributions, these organizations face challenges in maintaining the level of care and assistance that so many depend on.
Recovery is not a short-term process, it is ongoing. And for many, it is only just beginning.

How You Can Help
There are several meaningful ways to support families still recovering from the Eaton Fire. Financial donations directly to nonprofits remain one of the most impactful ways to help, allowing organizations to respond quickly to the most urgent needs. In addition, donations of essential items such as clothing, household goods, and hygiene products continue to be critical for families who are rebuilding from the ground up. Community members and partners can also provide support by offering services, resources, collaborative efforts, and other forms of mutual aid that expand the reach and impact of these organizations.
A Community Effort That Must Continue
The Eaton Fire changed lives in an instant, but rebuilding those lives takes time, resources, and a community that does not turn away once the headlines fade. The reality is simple: the fire may be over, but the need is not. Continued support, compassion, and generosity will make the difference between families merely surviving and truly recovering. Now is the time to stay engaged, give what you can, and stand beside those who are still finding their way forward.
